Falling in Love – On Stage Make ‘n Take

By | 15/02/2017

Back in November, I was fortunate to be able to attend the demonstrator only On Stage Live event in Brisbane.  We all had a fabulous time meeting other demonstrators as well as a lot of the Stampin’ Up! staff from the Utah head office, playing with new products, business discussions and meeting many new friends from around the world.

As part of the three day event we had the opportunity to do a few “make & takes” using new products from Occasions catalogue, and this one is my favourite.

Highlighting the beautiful Falling in Love Designer Paper in conjunction with So in Love Bundle (stamp set and thinlit dies together for a 10% discount) it gives a lovely soft appearance with the elegance of just that little touch of bling.

It would make a lovely wedding/engagement/anniversary card.

If you’d like to join me at On Stage events and get a sneak peak at new catalogues and product before they are available to the public, why not consider signing up with Stampin’ Up!  Whether it be as a hobby or a business, the choice is yours.

Happy stamping!

Sale-a-bration – Avant Garden Background

By | 12/02/2017

For today’s card I have made an Easter Card which I believe could also be appropriate for a sympathy card, maybe also a wedding and christening card.  Really quite versatile.  My inspiration came from Beth Adams.

The cross and the leaves were created by using dies from the Flourish thinlits, the flowers are punched with the Blossom Punch topped with Pearl Basic Jewels.  The sentiment is from new Suite Sentiments stamp set from the Occasions Catalogue.

You may notice the background on the top layer.  This was done using the Avant Garden stamp set which is free as part of current Sale-a-bration promotion (finishes 31 March 2017 so be quick).  I inked up the main flower image in Wisteria Wonder ink and stamped it multiple times without re-inking in between.  I must admit it looks better in real life but I’m sure you get the idea.

Beautiful You – Re-revisited

By | 09/02/2017

If you can’t tell by now, I love this stamp set.  I had a great time playing around with it and coming up with several different projects.

The image on this card is perhaps a little more solemn but still works well with the sentiment.  What better way to feel alive than a walk in the rain?

While I have stamped and coloured the image in the same way as the previous cards using the new Stampin’ Up! watercolour pencils, this time I made a mask with an oval framelit cut from the middle and sponged Soft Sky over the image, allowing it to be lighter towards the middle.  I find this gives a lovely gentle feel to the project.  It’s funny isn’t it, that sometimes the simpliest things are the best!

Watercolour Window Box Card

By | 05/02/2017

Just in case you thought the Window Box dies were only for creating the box here’s an idea using one of the dies in conjunction with bit of watercolouring to create a simple but elegant card.

To start, cut a piece of Shimmery White card stock slightly smaller than the top layer.  Spritz lightly with water and then using an aqua painter pick up colour from inkpad colours of your colour choice and randomly cover the card stock.  In this instance I have used Island Indigo (my favourite) and Perfect Plum.  Leave to dry completely.

Once dry, adhere behind a die cut image of your choice and layer onto a co-ordinating card base.

It really is very simple and quick yet very effective.

Beautiful You Revisited

By | 02/02/2017

As promised here is another offering using the Beautiful You stamp set.  This time using a different image coloured in Melon Mambo, using Watercolour pencils and a blender pen, topped with a touch of a Wink of Stella Glimmer (this may be a little more obvious in the next photo).

The Floral Boutique Designer washi tape provides and alternative easy back ground edged with Night of Navy Thick Baker’s Twine.

I love the splash of Melon Mambo on the focal image while everything else on the card is either Whisper White and Night of Navy.  And with the nature of Stampin’ Up! products everything matches from card stock, Baker’s Twine, Washi Tape and ink colours, thus allowing you to have confidence in your projects.

Beautiful You meets Calypso Coral

By | 29/01/2017

I must admit when I first saw the Beautiful You stamp set in the catalogue my initial thoughts were “not my kind of stamp set” but after seeing many fabulous creations, I have been converted.  The set is somewhat reminiscent of the sketches on the front of old sewing patterns.  There are a number of lovely uplifting sentiments that work well with images.

For this card I have stamped the image and sentiment using black Staz On ink.  It may not be obvious but I have used Stampin’ Up!’s new watercolour pencils for the limbs and using Staz On avoids the possibility of the outline smudging when using the blender pens or aqua brush.

I also stamped the image on a scrap of Calypso Coral paper from the Designer Series Paper (DSP)stack and fussy cut the dress and hat which I then carefully adhered on top of the original image.  This technique is referred to as Paper Piecing and is a handy way of ‘colouring’ images.

A strip of the reverse of the same (DSP) paper down the side of the top layer and finished off with piece of Calypso Coral Thick Bakers Twine tied in a bow completes the topper.  This is all then mounted onto a Calypso Coral card base using Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Be sure to check in again as I plan to share a number of other cards using the Beautiful You stamp set.

Window Box

By | 26/01/2017

This beautiful box was created using the new Window Box Thinlit dies from the 2017 Occasions Catalogue and two products from the Sale-a-brations catalogue.

Again simplicity adds elegance.  The lace image was stamped in Sahara Sand prior to constructing the box, and the ribbon just finishes if off nicely.

The thinlits dies can be purchased as part of the bundle thus giving you a 10% discount, in this instance I have paired it with Delicate Details stamp set and 3/8″ Metallic Ribbon, each of which you can potentiallly choose for free as part of the Sale-a-bration promotion (until 31 March 2017 only).  The ribbon, particularly, is lovely to work with and holds its shape beautifully.  I have used the Very Vanilla ribbon with gold thread, it comes in a combo pack along with Whisper White ribbon with silver thread.

I love the delicate detail on the top which can either be die cut directly from box top or as I have here, cut from a another piece of card and adhered with dimensionals.  Equally the thinlits come with other options to die cut details on the top of the box around the sides of the box making it versatile and suitable for many occasions.

These lovely boxes are quick and easy to make with many different variations you can make. I hope to have more to show you over the next few weeks.

Watercolour Pencils

By | 24/01/2017

Just a quick post today with a You Tube link from the lovely Shannon West from head office in Utah with information to share on  Stampin’ Up!s new range of Watercolour pencils in popular Stampin’ Up! colours.

While we have long had blender pens and aqua brushes that can be used in conjunction with our ink pads, you may find that Watercolour pencils give you a little more control particularly if you are like me and not a confident ‘artist’. Over the next few weeks, I plan to have a number of projects to show you using the Watercolour Pencils.

Gorgeous Grunge – Number of Years

By | 23/01/2017

In late December, a certain awesome chap had his 13th birthday.  As with many card makers, I struggle at times to know what cards to do for the young men in my life, not to mention the older men.  Not helped in this case by me leaving it to the last minute.  That’s one of the many challenges caused by having birthdays on or around Christmas time.  We really didn’t plan that very well at all.

For this card, the stamping and mat layer are in Dapper Denim.  The background is stamped on Whisper White card stock using the Gorgeous Grunge stamp set.  The numbers are stamped using the Number of Years stamp set and then die cut using the matching dies.  The numbers have been slight elevated using Stampin’ Dimensionals.  For that touch of bling (and yes, bling is Ok for the boys too), I have die cut Silver Glimmer paper using Swirly Scribbles Thinlets.

I must admit, I frequently turn to the Gorgeous Grunge stamp set with it’s seemingly random “splots” and splashes. It is a very versatile stamp set for all kinds of cards and scrapbooking pages and can be used to create all manner of backgrounds.

Birthday Bright – Christmas Team Swap

By | 18/12/2016

On Saturday I attended the Creative Inkers Team Christmas Breakfast.  This is an informal gathering of demonstrator from as far afield as Hamilton.  As part of that gathering we can opt into a team swap, which involves the participants making a number of cards or small 3D items all the same, and then swapping them with others in the group.  The idea being that we come away with a selection of  items to use for our own displays and to encourage friendship amongst demonstrators.

birthday-bright-josephs-coat

This card was my contribution and uses the Joseph’s Coat technique.  A good demonstration of this is done by Dawn Griffith.  I have changed it a little by firstly creating the “white Happy Birthday” by clear heat embossing onto Whisper White card stock before starting the technique as demonstrated by Dawn. I have used the same colours but have opted for Night of Navy on top.  The stamp set used is called Birthday Bright and is in the coming 2017 Occasions catalogue which starts on 4 January 2017.
